I went into the office on Friday, just to get some sense of normalcy. There are only 2 of us where I work, so it was hardly walking into a bustling office environment. I spent the day tying up various loose ends, given my likely impending absence in the near future. The news got passed out to my colleagues in our overseas branches, and I received messages of support and well-wishes from all of them (we're a small firm, by the way).
I spoke to my GP again, and exchanged emails with my surgeon. Whilst they were still waiting on replies from MD Anderson, the suggestion was made to arrange the insertion of a chemo port in the coming week, ticking off one more thing that needs to be done.
I got out of work a bit early and came back to sort a few things. I then went out to meet a bunch of friends for happy hour, seeing them in face-to-face for the first time since the news broke. Now, the way a bunch of Brits show their support for a friend in trouble may not cater to all tastes. A delicate blend of support, gags, and outright insults was received, and coupled with a few Red Stripes, the night did the trick. I got home feeling somewhat positive about the whole thing.
